Mid-Week Music: NEU! - “Hallogallo”
If there is any single song that says to me “just keep going” it’s this one. I’m in the midst of a lot of heavy stuff going on at the moment I’m writing this. But I still have to take the car in for inspection. I still have to make dinner. I still have to walk the dog. I still have to not drink. I have to just keep going.
“Hallogallo” was released in 1972 and if this is your first time hearing it and it sounds familiar, it’s because this song (and the album it came from) were the template for countless songs and bands to follow, including David Bowie (his Berlin-era albums) and perhaps most directly, Stereolab, who basically directly quote this song in their own epic jam “Jenny Ondioline.” And if you want to go even deeper, check out Unrest’s incredibly long (and worth every minute) b-side “Hydro.”
This song tells me it’s OK to put one foot in front of the other and find a little joy in the mundane and the regular–the respite from the shit.
That’s all for today.
I love you,
David
